The QA/QC professional is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure all ship repair, activation, and engineering activities are executed in compliance with applicable standards, classification society rules, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
The role ensures quality is embedded across planning, execution, inspection, and delivery stages, with a strong focus on risk management, process improvement, and preventive quality practices. Acting as an independent authority on quality matters, the position supports operational teams while promoting a quality-driven culture across the yard to minimize rework, enhance compliance, and ensure consistent project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full alignment of operational activities with the approved Quality Manual and Quality Management System (QMS)
- Maintain, implement, and continuously improve the QMS in compliance with ISO standards, classification society rules, regulatory, and client requirements
- Plan, lead, and participate in internal and external audits, including those conducted by classification societies, clients, and regulatory bodies
- Establish and maintain effective document control systems, ensuring proper traceability and retention of all quality records
- Develop, review, and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality procedures
- Ensure inspections and testing are conducted at all required stages of project execution
- Monitor and control workmanship quality across mechanical, fabrication & welding, electrical, coating/painting, NDT, dimensional control, and installation activities
- Coordinate inspections with classification society surveyors and client representatives to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards (LR, DNV, ABS)
- Identify, assess, and manage quality risks, maintaining a risk and opportunity register
- Ensure full material traceability, including certification, test reports, welding consumables, and vendor documentation
- Identify non-conformities, raise NCRs, and lead root cause analysis (RCA) initiatives
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track recurring issues to minimize rework and cost of poor quality (COPQ)
- Drive continuous improvement by optimizing quality processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance
- Establish, monitor, and report quality KPIs aligned with organizational objectives
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, procurement, and operations teams to integrate quality requirements into all project phases
- Provide technical quality guidance and ensure adherence to specifications, standards, and best practices
- Promote a strong quality culture across the organization through training and awareness programs for supervisors, inspectors, and production teams
- Maintain independence and uphold quality standards under project timelines and operational pressures
Must Have
- Education Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in: / Mechanical Engineering/ Marine Engineering/ Naval Architecture/ Electrical Engineering
- 5–12+ years of QA/QC experience in:
- Ship repair / shipbuilding / marine engineering
- Offshore / oil & gas / heavy engineering industries
- Hands-on experience in:
- Dry docking, vessel repair, or conversion projects
- Yard or site-based QA/QC operations
- Experience working with classification societies (LR, DNV, ABS, BV, etc.)
- Proven experience in audits, inspections, and quality system implementation
- QMS & ISO standards (ISO 9001)
- Welding standards (AWS, ASME)
- NDT methods and inspection techniques
- Coating, blasting, and painting standards
- ITP preparation and review
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Risk assessment methodologies
- Marine regulations and classification requirements
- Material certification and traceability systems
- ISO9001, AS9100, AS9110, or other globally recognized Quality Management Systems Internal Auditor training preferred
